A variety of ghosts are said to haunt this cemetery, which is one of the stops on the city's ghost tour. One of the spirits here is believed to be a specter named Elizabeth. She has been described as the daughter of a Spanish era guard at the City Gate who would visit him frequently and greet people entering the city. Some also believe she is the ghost of a 13 or 14-year-old girl who died in the 1821 yellow fever epidemic either at the City Gate or was left at the entrance of the cemetery.
